Intelligently written and well-researched

Another great Kyle Masters thriller from pilot/author Dana Griffin, in which Kyle’s NTSB investigator wife, Lori, finds herself at the center of an aircraft accident investigation and caught between cross-hairs.
Griffin approaches this installment differently, putting hard-as-nails Lori Masters in the driver’s seat for the first half of the book. Kyle and Lori’s daughter, Brooke, eventually get involved and soon fists and bullets are flying. It’s at this point Kyle takes the story over, a transition I thought Griffin handled quite well.
The investigation is intelligently written and clearly well-researched. I found dialogue smart, action scenes fun, and adored Kyle, as always. He is a quirky, cool kickass, not one of these cookie-cutter action heroes, and I look forward to his next high-octane airline thriller, and will think twice about flying. Really, Dana Griffin, what do you know that we don’t?

What Grisham is to legal thrillers; Dana Griffin is to airline mysteries...

Full Disclosure: As a reader of the first two books in the Kyle Master series, I was given an advanced reader copy of Calamity for a fair and unbiased review.
As an experienced pilot himself, Author Dana Griffin, knows how to write an airline thriller that keeps the reader captivated. The characters are not only engaging, but he reveals their flies, and allows them to add the right dose of humor to keep the plot from getting bogged down with the semantics of an accident scene investigation.
The always affable, but cocky Kyle Masters takes a back seat out of the gate, while his wife, Lori Masters competently takes the lead as the NTSB Investigator when a Contrail’s Airplane makes a forced landing in blizzard-like conditions in Denver, causing numerous injuries and dozens to suffer with hypothermia. Questions arise from the start when an individual from aircraft certification services is tasked with taking part in the investigation, but things get more ominous when Lori discovers the digital flight data recorder is missing, which could mean grounding the aircraft – a major detriment to the airline and manufacturer.
Meanwhile, Lori’s daughter, Brooke, makes an unannounced appearance at home, advising Kyle that she won’t be returning to school, which arouses their suspicions, but is a telling sign that the thrilling action is going to be a family affair. While confined at home, Kyle starts digging into the airline and manufacture, and learns that the company is vying for a billion-dollar Navy contract. When he and Brooke fly to the Denver area to join up with Lori, the action and suspense inevitably follow. Murder, kidnapping, and even a little bit of political drama put them in the cross-hairs, as the minions behind the company vying the billion dollar contract pull out all the stops to reach their objective, making the ending an exhilarating conclusion.
A little bit of family drama thrown into the mix, makes the story an overall entertaining read, and keeps the reader interested in keeping up with the Masters' family.

ANOTHER HIGH OCTANE-FUELED ADVENTURE!

CALAMITY is another high octane-fueled adventure by Dana Griffin. The NTSB sends Lori Masters’, Kyle’s wife, to investigate a forced landing in blizzard conditions at Denver’s International Airport. Contrail’s Airline, a foreign manufactured jet is vying for a contract with the US Military. The case goes quickly off-course when the “black-box,” goes mysteriously missing and the uppity-ups in command refuse to allow their pilot’s interviews. Brooke, Lori’s daughter, arrives unannounced with her own web of secrets. Add a murder and a kidnapping and you have a recipe for excitement. It wouldn’t be a Kyle Masters’ book if he didn’t infiltrate enemy lines and get sucked up into a dangerous crosswind of politics and airline scandal with some nail-biting suspense thrown in for good-ending touchdown. I will fasten my seatbelt (in advance) in preparation for the next Dana Griffin flight!
