About the Author
Homeschooled himself in the 1960 s and 70 s, Kevin Swanson and his wife, Brenda, are now homeschooling their five children. Since graduating from his homeschool and then serving as student body president of a large west coast university, he has gone on to other leadership positions in corporate management, church, and other non-profits. Kevin has 43 years of experience in the homeschooling movement and serves as the Director of Generations with Vision a ministry he founded to strengthen homeschool families around the country. As a father who wants to leave a godly heritage for his own five children, Kevin's passion is to strengthen and encourage the homeschooling movement all over the world, and to cast a vision for generations to come. For the last 4 years Kevin has hosted a daily radio program Generations Radio the world's largest homeschooling and Biblical worldview program that reaches families across the US and in over 100 countries. Kevin has also served as the Executive Director of Christian Home Educators of Colorado for the last nine years. He has also authored several popular books for homeschoolers, including Apostate, Upgrade-10 Secrets to the Best Education for Your Child, The Second Mayflower, the Family Bible Study Guide Series, and others. I am responsible for the culture that shapes me

The Tattooed Jesus: What Would the Real Jesus Do with Pop Culture? is a worth while read. I would have to honestly say it was better than I thought and left reading challenged in how I interact with culture. I left reading thinking that if I died today and someone did an autopsy of me what things would they see that have impacted me the most. Mr. Swanson paints a clear picture that the things you see, hear and do are the things that are going to impact you. He addresses the dichotomy that exists of what is clearly taught in scripture and what is ultimately acted out. He goes after the forms of media specifically that are shaping culture more than government rulings or church attendance. He wasn't afraid to bring up any form of media and articulate it's usefulness of addressing and shaping the culture. Why do we expose our precious minds over and over to horrific acts on TV, Mr. Swanson asks. Truly we would never stand outside our house and watch drama unfold as we do in watching TV. After I read his section on music shaping culture I decided to see what where the top songs on the different charts and read their lyrics. I honestly couldn't get through the top rap song lyrics without finding anything uplifting or positive. And could only think that yes if I sang that song over and over yes that is going to shape me a very destructive manner. Thankfully The Tattooed Jesus isn't full of pointing fingers at others but instead clearly is pointing the finger of responsibility upon each one of us and especially us as parents. Did I agree with how everything was said no, but I left reading the book being challenged to address how culture is shaping and forming me in ways and manners I hadn't thought about before.

Brilliant!

This is a timely book by pastor Swanson. He brings to discussion a theme that is essential for christianity nowadays. He gives concise and direct illustraions on how the lack of discernment towards biblical understanding of culture is bringing christians and o called christians down This is a very importante and relevant book for all to read. A Wake-up call to families not to be taken away by the fallen cultural trends of the time. I highly recommend this book. We must read and reread it! Another importante feature is that pastor Swanson is not shy to name names and point to the proper and improper cultural figures of our time. Other books that are as relevant as this one are: 'The Truth War' (by John Macarthur), 'Who are You to Judge?` (by Erwin Lutzer), "The Great Evangelical Disaster" (by Francis Schaeffer)

Insightful, Biblical, and desperately needed.
As author Kevin Swanson aptly stated in a previous book: "Truth is taking the Word of God and applying it to the situation at hand." This Swanson has masterfully done in 'The Tattooed Jesus.' Raising insightful and thought-provoking questions, Swanson encourages the reader to return to the Scriptures for answers to the cultural war enveloping the modern world.
"The cultural war tests the true commitment of the human heart," Swanson begins. "By their fruits ye shall know them," Christ declared (Matt. 7:20). So, what would Jesus do with pop culture? How would His followers respond to the cultural choices surrounding them? Swanson's book is a clarion call to examine the modern world in a Biblical, Christ-exalting manner. Excellent read. Highly recommended.
