Linda [Lum DeBono] corralled the designers of Henry Glass Fabrics and they came up with projects and patterns for the book. Not only does it promote the fabric company, it also promotes each designer involved, individually. Wait until you hear this! All of the designers are donating the royalties of this book to the Red Cross! There are 15 projects included in the book, from super easy to some really beautiful patchwork patterns and projects. Of course, there is a mix of patterns in the book, pillows, pocketbooks, quilts, and don't forget the placemats. As a preface to each of the projects, the designers share their thoughts on color mixing, their inspiration, scale, variety, etc. So you get to know a small bit of the stuff that makes 'em tick. The patterns and writing are fairly standard and are color illustrated. The photography is nicely done... I think that the publisher, That Patchwork Place, did a really nice job for Henry Glass and I hope the book does well for the designers, Henry Glass, and the Red Cross. This book is jammed with adorable projects from a variety of designers. The talented women from Henry Glass Fabrics got together and put together a wonderful book filled with quilts that you will be drooling over! It was compiled by Linda Lum DeBono and... the designers are donating all of their royalties from the sale of this book to the Red Cross... What really impressed me with this book is the plethora of tips that the designers shared on how they use fabrics from their stash to create a new look. The information they provide is very useful and it really feels like you get to know them a little bit better also. With this collection, Linda Lum DeBono has compiled a very pleasing and diverse assortment of sewing projects from her fellow designers at Henry Glass and Co., the justly renowned fabric company. Rich use of pattern and colour is consistent throughout the book, despite the huge variations in style and technique, and the process of successful fabric choice and matching is the heart and soul of the book. In this way it is far more than just 15 lovely quilted projects to make, and also serves as a fascinating insight into the work of some top designers and a helpful guide to making your own harmonious fabric choices. There's a wonderful jumble of projects in here, from pillows and placemats to quilts and more, using a mix of patchwork and applique styles. A standout creation is hard to pick (which is why we suspect there are three on the cover alone!) but a personal favourite is Kim Diehl's sublime "Garden Bramble" the colours encapsulate all the joy of a crisp autumnal walk in the woods, and the quilting is very clever indeed. --Popular Patchwork, March 2015

Super fun new book with creative projects to show off beautiful fabrics, but also a way to help raise funds for the Red Cross

This is an excellent book for quilting and sewing enthusiasts of all levels. Packed full of fun projects, perfect for beginner through advanced levels, with easy to follow instructions and great visuals. Projects range from fun pillows, quilt caddy/bags, wallhangings to full size quilts. With all the fun projects this book is an excellent value, but even more special when you know all of the talented designers are donating their royalties from this book to the Red Cross.

Fourteen projects that range from quilts, wall hangings, place mats, pillows and a quilting caddy can be found in the pages of this book. And if you are like me, you have a hard time figuring out what fabric to put with what fabric.
These designers will walk you through how they think and pick out fabric. Then they will create a project with those fabrics. If they use templates, they are included at full size.
Each project has a blurb from the designer about how they fabric was chosen and then there is a paragraph or two that gives you a tip. The patterns are pretty standard in that cutting and material lists are included. Graphics are also included to help define the written instructions.
Each project is from a different designer. If you are wondering which designer has your type of project, this would be a good book to try as there are 14 of them to choose from. You can also learn a tip/trick from each one to add to your quilting knowledge.
If you get nothing else out of this book, you will have been exposed to a variety of fabric combinations. This just might spark an idea from your own fabrics that you wouldn’t have tried before.

Fantastic designer insights on how to coordinate fabric groups from your stash

This book incorporates projects from fifteen Henry Glass fabric designers, with a huge assortment of styles and techniques. You'll find applique, piecing, quilts, a sewing caddy, a pillow and an aromatherapy bag. Some of the projects have a modern feel, others are very traditional. What sets this book apart, however, is the page that comes after most of the project instructions. The designers explain ways to use the leftover fabrics (from a coordinated line), with other fabrics in your stash to create a new look. The tips are so insightful, I found myself skipping to each of these pages to try and absorb all the information at once. They even covered topics like blending traditional small prints (think Civil War reproduction fabrics) with batiks! It looks gorgeous in the book, I'm going to have to try out their tips on my own stash before I'll completely believe that possibility. All of the designers featured in this book donated their work so that the book's royalties could go straight to the Red Cross and victims of Hurricane Sandy.
