On September 4, 1973, Ron Holland became paralyzed from the neck down in a cliff diving accident. He has since spent a total of three years in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. During the past four years, he has been involved in lecturing on the special problems and needs of persons with spinal cord injuries. If I Could Ask You Anything is Ron Holland's encouraging story of the road to recovery and his adaptation to the life of a quadriplegic. His experiences in the hospital, his subsequent graduation from high school and enrollment in college, and his encounters with those who have aided him in his recovery are recounted with a feeling only one who has been there and back can summon.
Mr. Holland provides the reader with a question and answer section that enables those outside the real m of the handicapped to better relate to their fellow human beings.
He reveals his own personal experiences about spinal-cord injuries in answering such questions as "How do you feel about your accident?," "How can I help someone who has suffered a spinal-cord injury?," and "Can people with spinal -cord injuries have sex?"
Mr. Holland's purpose throughout is to promote the rights and privileges of all disabled people. He directs his efforts toward establishing an understanding of the special feelings and sympathies of the physically handicapped individual. In dispelling many of the myths and fallacies surrounding the lives of the disabled, the author succeeds quite well in advancing the quadriplegic's case.
