About the Author
David Hoekenga came to New Mexico in the seventies and never found a reason to leave the friendly people and panoramic vistas. An addictionologist and cardiologist, he loves to visit the New Mexico monuments and wilderness from the Pecos to the Gila. Exploring the old cities of Santa Fe and Albuquerque is a favorite pastime. He is a lover of simple, traditional New Mexican cuisine and a good mystery.

A tedious disappointment

A previous reviewer promises us that we won't be disappointed by this book. Actually, you will be very disappointed if what you are looking for in a mystery is dialogue that is not wooden; characters that are not lifeless caricatures; New Mexico settings that are not cliches of the "my discovery of New Mexico" school of blogging; and punctuation and sentence structure that are above the level of a fifth grader. This is a perfect example of the perils of self-publishing. Anyone interested in the genre of Santa Fe mysteries will find books by other authors, particularly Christine Barber and Walter Satterthwait, much more rewarding and revealing about the people, places and landscapes of northern New Mexico.

Santa Fe Solo
Santa Fe solo tells the story of Signe, a Danish Detective who transfers from Copenhagen to the police force in Santa Fe, New Mexico only to find herself in the middle of a murder investigation. The victim is a troubled, local woman with a shady past who is murdered during the State Fair. Adding to the mystery, the victim's valuable horse is also missing. Santa Fe Solo follows Signe's adventures as she pursues a host of leads trying to identify and capture the killer or killers. The writing is engaging and descriptive and will keep you tuned in right up until the unexpected conclusion. The descriptions of the New Mexico landscape and the local food and culture will make you want to book a trip to Santa Fe tomorrow! It's a pleasure to read a story about a strong, smart, sexy woman. Signe is a character both women and men will enjoy getting to know. So, whip up some chicken enchiladas, grab a glass of good wine and sit down with Santa Fe solo. You won't be disappointed!
