Aside from explaining to the traveler how to find discounts on accommodations, transportation and food be budget travel guide also explains the reasons why people should travel with the purpose and use travel is an opportunity to get in touch with their true self, as well as present those that you meet on your journey with a positive impression of your country and culture.

A really good planning tool if you're broke/cheap/poor like me

This is a really useful and practical book. If you're not a seasoned traveler then it's really easy to just go with the easiest options or the suggested ones just because you don't know better. I like that this book tries to encourage you to think outside the box when travelling. It's really easy to simply assume that the choice you are given (such as transport, seating etc) are the only ones but now I know that I can actually find other options I'm going to start planning better when going on holiday. The cost of travelling is really prohibitive for me so the fact that there's some really good ways of actually not having to spend money on some things I never knew about is great. I'm looking forwards to using the advice this book shares. It's pretty easily read and I'm glad it's e-format because I'll be taking it with so I can use it as reference while I'm travelling.

The book flowed seamlessly even with the multiple characters and converging and diverging story. Worthy of your attention and time to read. I would pay up to $2.99 to read it. Highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a little mystery and humor mixed in.

Entertaining Read

I picked this up from Kindle Unlimited. I appreciate Amazon's new business model. It exposes me to work that I would never come across otherwise. This is the first selection from Ed Halliday that I have read. I will now anxiously look for the rest of his catalog. The story of Julian Renard moves well and the characters are well written. If you are looking for entertainment, here it is.

I devoured this book! The Miracle Mint Water lives up to its name. I always keep a jar of it in the fridge now. Lots of easy ideas in this book - and best of all I have all these things growing in my garden or on my counter.

Great book! Packed with creative, easy-to-follow tips

I just finished this terrific book by Heather Holliday. I would recommend it to anyone! I had been looking for simple, easy-to-make, environmentally-friendly cleaning products - and this book had all the answers. It is jam-packed with great tips for using natural products, like citrus fruits and mint, to do everything from clean faucets to get rid of laundry stains. And it goes well beyond cleaning - it shows how simple items from the garden can keep pests away, cure headaches, freshen your breath, and much more (who knew cucumber skins could be used as erasers?). I don't even have a garden, but this book is still the perfect resource. I'll refer to it often. A quick, fun read with so many great ideas!

The first assault units (Sturmtruppen) were formed during the spring and summer of 1916, when the Sturmbataillon Rohr was organized and after General Falkenhayn, head of the OHL, gave orders for the creation of special detachments. These detachments had the mission of spreading the Stosstrupptaktik, a new tactic which decisively transformed the fighting methods of the German Army. But long before this happened, another type of troops had been created within the German infantry during the winter of 1914-1915: the Shock troops (Stosstruppen), fresh infantry groups that were never officially recognized as such and never belonged to any permanent unit, but remained active until the end of the war and contributed to improving the offensive capacity of the German infantry.

This book is a narration of the history of the shock and assault troops and covers their combat methods. Finally, it offers a comprehensive description of their uniforms, equipment, and weapons, along with a large number of illustrations and period photographs rarely seen.

Clearly written, excellent photos and colour artwork.

I have a number of books on the Great war German Stosstruppen including Thomas Victors books. This is excellent, clearly written and offering many photos not in any of the other books I have on the subject.
As a model maker the images provided inspiration on weapons and uniforms. The book contains artwork illustrating in colour the uniforms and equipment of the Stosstruppen from 1915 onwards.

Make fun of tests. Yeh!

For those like me, who were never taught how to study or how to take an examination; this book can be an eye-opener and a revelation.
This is a simple and a small book: I use both adjectives as complements. It is simple but not simplistic. It is small but inclusive. It is supportive. It is encouraging. It gives workable and simple techniques, such as —study in fifteen-minute sessions. It tells you all you need to know in compact form and stays on the subject.
It can transform an ordeal into an interesting and yes, fun project.
Not surprisingly, its techniques are applicable and carry over to any form learning.

Don't waste your money

This is such a ripoff. Out of the 101 numbered pages in this self-published 5 in x 8 in book, 23 are completely blank, 3 pages are section headers, 9 are pure promos for the author as she recounts her story and launching her business. 8 pages have less than 20 words printed on them,14 pages have about 1/3 to 1/2 half of a page of very generously spaced print.29 pages are about 3/4 full with double spacing between about 50% of the lines. So, 57 pages are really blank, largely blank, or significantly blank with 29 additional pages with filler titles and double-spacing. This is about 8-10 pages of correctly set type in standard-sized book. The instruction is repetitive and is really little more than an exhortation to relax and do it. It really strains credulity that this book got 12 independent 5 star reviews. Don't waste your money.

Amazing! I love this book

Amazing! I love this book! I normally get really tense before testing. Dr. Holmes lays out her format that not only makes it easy to take tests, but it's fun! For me, this is miraculous! If I can take tests with a smile on my face, anything is possible. Love the language get, the simplicity, the format.

Encouragement for Any Caregiver

The Reluctant Caregiver by Bobbi Junior
What does a woman do when her 90-year-old mother —who has been estranged from her over the years— develops dementia and urgently needs help? Bobbi Junior, the author of The Reluctant Caregiver, finds herself in that position. Her mother is gradually losing her ability to reason and live on her own. The journey ahead is far beyond Bobbi’s ability to cope, so she turns to the Lord. In her book, her own narration of the situation is interspersed with intensely personal prayers as she works through each new situation with assistance from the Lord. Her mother can be sweet and cooperative and in an instant turn against her and berate her. Being her mother’s caregiver is a thankless job, but Bobbie knows she’s the only one who can do it. She turns to her brother for help, which he willingly gives, but unfortunately, he lives five hours away. Each chapter focuses on a new development in the downward spiral in her mother’s life as she loses more and more of her independence. Gradually her mother comes to the point where her speech no longer makes sense and she cannot live on her own.

Told with grace and humour, Bobbi’s story is one taking place more and more in today’s society. People find themselves in the sandwich generation where they are caring for their own parents and their children at the same time. The mother of a quadriplegic daughter, Bobbi has already been a caregiver. This book is helpful to anyone finding themselves in a caregiver position, no matter what the reason. Personally, I have been a caregiver for my husband and found the book helpful. Sensitive and Respectful - Highly Recommended

The Reluctant Caregiver by Bobbi Junior is a sensitive, true account of the struggles faced when dealing with an aging parent. Confusion, anger and misplaced accusations characterize her mother’s increasing dementia, compounded by a less than ideal relationship and a past riddled with pain. With gentleness and sensitivity, Bobbi describes their journey into uncharted emotional and psychological waters. Above all, this is a book about relying on God’s grace and guidance. It is a thought provoking read, shedding light on the fear experienced by those suffering from dementia, yet offering a gentle and respectful example to help those faced with this reality. The book really struck a chord with me since I have had to deal with similar situations.

How To Live in the Middle

I've been a part of the sandwich generation. It's not easy. Bobbi has given us a glimpse into the struggles of dealing with a needy parent with dementia while dealing with adult children too. I love her tenderhearted manner in working through finding the best place for her mom to live while still giving her mom as sense of decision making. I like looking at how she struggled through her own feelings of wanting to control but working hard to let her mom keep her independence. And I love how she shows us how to talk with God on an on-going basis to keep peace in everyone's heart. Well written. Fascinating. A page turner.

About the Author
Henry Dozier Russell (1889-1972) commanded the Thirtieth Infantry Division upon its mobilization for federal service in 1940 until he was relieved of the unit’s command in 1942. He later commanded the newly created Forty-Eighth Infantry Division (National Guard) until his retirement in 1951.

Lawrence M. Kaplan is the command historian for U.S. Army Cyber Command and the author of Homer Lea: American Soldier of Fortune and editor of The Artillery Service in the War of the Rebellion. He lives in Reston, Virginia.

Important for Military Professionals

This book ought to be required reading at the Army War College and Command & General Staff school. It should be recommended for the mobilization school. It is a first-hand account of the most unsavory aspect of US mobilization in WW II, namely, discrimination against the National Guard and the purge of its senior officers in order to promote regulars. Whether this was "furtherance of the general War Department plan for reorganization of the National Guard and the purge of its senior officer" (p.66) may be debatable, but it is a fact that it happened. The very scope of the purge -- 17 out of 18 Guard commanders relieved along with a proportionate number of senior staff - gives credence to the author's charges.

The book is not a fair and balanced account. It is totally pro-National Guard and totally anti-regular Army. The author was an attorney and piles on evidence as a lawyer building a case. He led the 30th Division for 10 years until relieved of command in April, 1942. He alleges his division's performance in the Tennessee Maneuvers was maliciously downgraded by the 2nd Army commander in order to make the 30th's parent unit's 1st Army commander look bad. He details rigged tests and fraudulent evaluations. He maintains he was pressured to relieve competent officers and replace them with inexperienced regulars, and that when he would not comply, he himself was relieved in what amounted to a kangaroo court proceeding. But the book is more than just paranoiac ranting by a man bitter over losing his job. It is both a corrective to the historical record and a cautionary tale with lessons applicable to current military needs.

Historically, the author's main assertions are supported by statements in Gen Bradley's 1983 memoir, "A General's Life," by two WWII division histories I have read, less specifically in Christopher Gabel's "US Army GHQ Maneuvers of 1941," and by my personal observations serving in both regular and reserve components of the US Army over several decades. It is known that Gen Leslie McNair proposed abolishing the National Guard divisions and using their personnel as fillers in regular units (source: Bradley, et al) but was over-ruled by Gen Marshall. Neverthe-less, he engineered the relief and replacement of many capable officers causing resentment that persists to this day.

The most controversial aspect of this account is the culpability of George C. Marshall. Marshall was a great man who accomplished great things, but he was not without flaws. It is well-known that he kept a list of promising younger officers, like Eisenhower and Bradley, destined for future command. It is less well-know that he also had a 'bad boy' list of officers who had displeased him and whose careers were ever afterward doomed. Bradley recounts saving one such officer who was a victim of mistaken identity on Marshall's lists. This gives credence to Gen Russell's charges in Chapter 8, although the book is not without errors, some noted by the editor.

Describing the Carolina Maneuvers of 1941, in one place the author confuses Gen Drum, the Blue Force commander, with Gen Griswold, the Red commander. His description of unit deployments is unclear and does not match that in Gabel's "GHQ Maneuvers of '41," nor does his chronology. He attributes the famous capture of a Blue Force general as Gen Thompson of 1st Corp, whereas Gabel identifies him as Gen Drum, of 1st Army (Gabel p. 136). Such discrepancies aside, the author's main arguments hold up, though critics will deny it.

Misunderstanding within the military can be found at all levels, but prejudice works both ways. Some regulars continue to be contemptuous of reserves; some reservists, especially Guardsmen, are hypersensitive to any real or imagined slight or criticism; many non-West Pointers resent Academy graduates just on general principles. Attitudes can be changed, and an understanding of the events and opinions in this book can be the start of a corrective.

Outrageously biased, factually dubious, and politically incorrect--a great book!

70 years after the events described in this book we still can't decide how much of our military burden should be borne by career professionals and how much should fall to citizen warriors. General Russell's ill tempered rant is extremely valuable because it is an authentic glimpse of the kind of private vituperation that goes on beneath the surface but gets covered over with politeness in public. As a regular who became a reservist I saw both sides of this debate in a 25 year military career. As the military budget declines in the aftermath of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the think tanks and senior staffs are issuing polite opinions about the division of labor among the active force, the reserves, and the national guard but there are modern day Henry Russell's in all three components passionately arguing their cases "off the record." Whoever suggested that this work be dug up and made available has done a great service.

A whiney self serving memoir

Book provides insight into the feelings of those officers removed during the US army reorganization at the start of WW II and little else. The author, a lawyer in non military life, provides a description of his relief as commander of a National Guard division. Short on facts, or reliable details this is a one sided account of the Army effort to simultaneously reorganize and expand from late 1940. No comparison of senior officer guard vs regular training or experiece. No examples of excellent service of relieved 30th officers in war service. Endlessly repetitious the book could have used a good editor while the author was alive. The author has many prejudices anti regular, anti reserve, anti Washington, and even anti immigrant as he bashes Gen Kruger "The German", who had an excellent record commanding reorganized Guard divisions in the Pacific. Save your money buy another book.
