A must have practice book, great for testing, with answers

Loved this book. This is the second year I am purchasing NY Test prep common core practice books,, this is by far the one that I really expected the answer keys to be. The only book I found so far to have really point key explanations on how the written answers should be (or guided). Absolutely glad with this purchase.
Also, the tests are pretty short and easy to do for a kid - One story with 10-15 questions, I guess depending on kid around 20-30 min per test / time occupancy, exactly what I was looking for! Will definitely get next year.

An absorbing biography

The collaboration of biographer Karen Holliday Tanner and western history expert John D. Tanner, Jr. (Professor of History, Palomar College, San Marcos, California), Last Of The Old-Time Outlaws: The George West Musgrave Story is the informed and informative account of the notorious bandit, robber, and killer of the American Southwest, George West Musgrave (1877-1947), who was a charter member of the High Five/Black Jack gang, which in turn was responsible for Arizona's first bank hold-up as well as many other robberies. Only the ravages of failing health brought an end to Musgrave's crimes. Last Of The Old-Time Outlaws is enthusiastically recommended as being an absorbing biography of one of a rare oxymoron -- a successful career criminal.

A Classic Tale Of Old Texas

I learned quite a bit about my own family by reading this book. My great-grandfather Jonas Quimby Musgrave was George West Musgrave's uncle. The uncanny resemblance both in personality and facial features to current members of my family is remarkable. More importantly to the general reader however, this is a book that will really give you insight into the life of a real Texas Badman at the turn-of-the-century. The book was extremely well-written both scholarly and entertaining in the annecdotes presented revealing of the time and the chief character.

What is also reviewing in this book is a relationships among the various citizens and desperados in the brush country of South Texas. There you'll find Musgrave's hanging around with Pancho Villa and other Mexican pistoleros., in the international brotherhood of gunfighters and shootists. The folks back then didn't pay much attention the borders. It is a true glimpse of the past were men's allegiances were to their family and their friends not to nations. The only thing that kept George West Musgrave from being one of the most legendary bandits of the old West was the fact he never got caught and died with his boots on. If you want an example of a real Texan, not the kind that emigrate from New England and think a "Bowl of Red" is Manhattan clam chowder, this is a book for you.

George Musgrave's how to "win" friends and influence people

Karen and John Tanner's book on one of the last of the Old West outlaws provides us with a window to look into the past through the lens of a man who broke the law so many times that people would not even notice. Born in South Texas in the area south of San Antonio, George West Musgrave quickly entered a life of lawlessness which was marked with various exploits such as robbing of the first bank in then-Arizona Territory, a massive heist of a train near Grants, New Mexico and numerous cattle rustler endeavors across the Southwest. With the closing of the Frontier, Musgrave took his show far south of the border to the developing nation of Paraguay where he continued his lawless exploits in the Gran Chaco. In both the north and the south, Musgrave used a combination of persuasion, intimidation and friendliness to maintain control over the people he met; his gift for public relations served him well. Despite these "gifts," he was unable to provide a stable family life for his wife, being divorced by her and marrying a Paraguayan native who bore him several children before they had a falling out. His life of crime continued unabated until heart disease took his life in 1947 at age 70.

The book was an enjoyable read and tells us much about the time of the closing of the Old West. Railroads, the expansion of settlement in the Southwest and better police work spelled the end for the old outlaws and Musgrave saw the handwriting on the wall. The book has 259 pages of text with copious end notes, bibliography and an index. A good book for historians of the Old West and Latin America as well; four stars.

Susan M. Shaw is director of the School of Language, Culture, & Society and professor of Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at Oregon State University. A native of Georgia, she received a PhD from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She is the author of God Speaks to Us, Too: Southern Baptist Women on Church, Home, and Society and Storytelling in Religious Education and co-author of Girls Rock! Fifty Years of Women Making Music and Women’s Voices, Feminist Visions: Classic and Contemporary Readings. She is an ordained Baptist minister and a member of a United Church of Christ congregation.

Now I never have been able to use home made soap on myself, because it always caused terrible reactions with my skin. After reading this book I learn some tips for homemade soap and moved on to the process of doing it myself! Luckily and thankfully I now have an amazing bar of soap thati can use on myself with no reaction!

A well-organized book.

This is probably the best book about soap making I have read so far. The information is arranged in a sensible fashion and has much more to say about just about everything than most of the other books I have read so far. The soap recipes that are included are even arranged in order from simplest to most complex.

Excellent book - very thorough

I recently read a study on how antibacterial hand soaps can cause real damage to your skin (and might explain why I suffer from very dry hands). So I've been looking to take the natural approach, hence why this book caught my eye. I think this book is very well written and thoroughly explains the process of soap making. I welcome the specific recipes for dry and sensitive skin too! Would recommend!

In Melody of Murder by Theresa Parker we are presented with a story that is highly interactive, really asking the reader to explore and interrogate what they think about how narrative is constructed while still giving us a centered story that is both emotional and intriguing. The title seems to this reader to be  fun and interesting, helping the reader to think about they will engage with the story overall before even starting in. The overall design of the book is intriguing.The cover image for the book is dark and haunting, conveying the right sense of menace and romance that permeates the book. What carries the book so well has to do with the narration here, the tough and wry sense in which a vulnerable character is developed and tells her own story. Spencer is a delightful mix and mash up of old school noir PIs as well as the more modern take on the mystical and spiritual detective, one who can see and sense as well as rely on guts and intuition. Great story!!

I purchased book 1 & 2 on my kindle this afternoon and finished them both this evening. Theresa has a way of writing that pulls you in quickly. The details are so crisp and clear....Ok, and a lot funny. I could picture the spiders and was actually giving myself the visual once over to make sure there weren't any spider cooties on me from this book. I look forward to the next book just to see what antics will pop up for Rommy, aka Tink, aka Sparky. Her sweet gentle said only shows up when she has no other choice. I sure do love her independent streak more though, that's when the fun begins. I'm just gonna put this out there but.....wouldn't it be fun if nana' s meds and the cats meds accidentally got mixed up? We're talking about a cat that can ballroom dance with a stuffed dog, and nana would be well rested as long as there are beanbags throughout the house....Just sayin

Another Great addition to the Andromeda series!

If you have not read the first book you should start there. It's such an awesome series you don't want to miss it. Although, the Author does a good job with a short recap in the first chapter.

The author did it again! It was so good I could not put it down. I love her stories. It is suspenseful, funny, and unpredictable.

So glad to see Andromeda and detective Cavanaugh's relationship is growing. With a serial killer in the loose, Nick gets very protective of Rommy. The Maestro of Fear is terrorizing the FBI and Rommy with some unwanted recordings & "Gifts"!

The story is told in Andromeda's POV. It wraps up nicely with no cliff hangers! I'm already looking forward to the next book!

I just finished the second book in the Andromeda Series. I have to say great work on keeping the killer's identity a secret until the end. Usually I have the end figured out and I was very pleasantly surprised at the end. I cannot wait until the next book comes out and hopefully it will be available through readingdeals.com. I really enjoy Theresa's writing. I am hoping for new characters. :)

Beautiful Map

This is a beautiful map and will last for a long time, so glad we bought the laminated version, with all the looking and poking that kids do it will stand up to their dirty little mits. The only thing I wish is that it was only in English, it's not the worst thing in the world, but none of us speak or read French so it does us no good, just fills up the map with more words.

Tom Neely is a painter and cartoonist living in Los Angeles. This is the third book portraying a fantasy loving relationship between Danzig and Henry Rollings. Its divided into 3 different stories and it's pretty good! The illustrations and stories go from cute and funny to more 'serious' (the last one). It's a cool book to show to your old school hxc or metal friends, they will be like "WTF! i cant believe someone did this".

These pages should be placed into a time capsule for all mankind to see how the future could be saved from evil and destruction. Excellent AP Calc Prep!

I’m a big fan of this author’s writing and teaching style (I have his 320 SAT Problems books and ACT book). The organization of his books allows you to go right to the problems you need to focus on without wasting valuable time. There’s something I really like about this book in particular. After each question the author gives a quick straightforward solution, so if you understand the answer you can move right to the next question. But if you don't get it right away, the solution is followed by an extensive set of notes which gives a complete review of all the concepts used in the solution, walks you through the solution step by step, and gives additional methods for solving the problem.

I recently purchased Steve's "320 AP Calculus AB Problems". I am a fan of Steve's, and have purchased just about every SAT Prep book that he has written. One of the main reasons I purchased his Calculus title was that it followed the same study format and philosophy as his SAT Math Prep series, which I found extremely informative and logically presented. And not just the SAT Math part of it, but the multiple approaches to solutions, plus wisdom on test taking strategy. However, I digress. Back to Calc AB. Due to the nature of the AP test as compared to the SAT, Steve is a little more surgical with the math in this title. To be fair, I received this title recently, so I haven't come close to looking at every problem yet. However, concerning the ones I have reviewed, I have found no "and then a miracle occurred" moments. We've all been there, right? A teacher is frantically presenting a problem, and you are right with him, understanding everything perfectly, until his very next line. It's like he changed from using English to Italian, right there before your eyes on the board. Well, with this title, I have found none of that, which for me, is the single most important characteristic of the very best math teachers, Very complete solutions, plus aside comments that can lead of better understanding. As one example, Steve's treatment of L'Hopital's Rule. Most teachers will only TELL you the incorrect usage of the Rule. Steve shows you, thereby cementing your understanding of proper Rule application. I have found no errors nor confused solution flows in Steve's work so far concerning this title. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Excellent with great structure

I love the structure of this book. The way it slowly increases in difficulty level makes it easy to review everything without getting overwhelmed. And the explanations are really good. The way the author starts with a quick solution and then goes into more detail is perfect. It allows you to get through the problems you can do quickly and focus on the ones that you find harder. If you already know how to do basic derivatives you can skip over the Level 1 differentiation problems and get right to the problems that require more thought. And similarly for the other problem types.
