A refreshing take on magickal practice

I've been a member of various magickal orders... GD, Astrum Argentum, Arum Solis... I've attempted Franz Bardon's self initiation into Hermetics... as well as variations of Enochian and Solomonic work. All of the above are heavy physical techniques to inscribe, incant and such. You memorize correspondences, you work on specific days, and collect the right herbs and incense and colored candles... and they work. I've used various of Opening by Watchtower to evoke a being to physical manifestation - but all I gained from such physical manifestation was shock.
Spiritually I was a Buddhist, Hindu and more recently started studying the Tao Teh Ching.
For me the gain of wisdom, the growth of my spirit, the overcoming of life's problems ALL happened by less "technical" means. Of course that's my path and yours may differ. As I grew older, I began to withdraw from the physical practices of LBRP, BRH, etc. I stopped utilizing the so called "weapons of the art" and triangle of art. At one time I had an entire room dedicated to the workings of Enochian magick, including a table made in the fashion of John Dee's description... wax sigil dei ameth and so forth.... YET... the most I gained was in internal work. By internal work I refer to the mental space that is established between a person and a spiritual force or energy.
This book is on internal work. A lot of details are not mentioned. In other words, some people who may not have a background in magick might feel there isn't enough detail. The author in many areas provides a skeleton work for which the user must know how to plug in their own pieces to get things working.
The magick techniques here are not so much how to circumambulate, draw a symbol, sigil or memorize tables of correspondences... although the Grimoire is closer to that type of physical work (where you call to the directions with specific "words of power.") I don't feel drawn to that part of the work - but it's there if it calls to you. Much of the techniques of this work utilize imagination and breath work. It combines eastern and western techniques. When I read this, it inspired me. It told me that I was on a path that others have naturally been on as well... While my techniques may differ, I found they had some great ideas (like for banishing), so I adopted some of their techniques into my own practice. They are amazing.
As I grow older I feel less drawn to the Western practices and more geared to the Eastern. I like this as the first 90% of the book is more about the magicians will and use of imagination and breath to the work. The later 10% deals with weapons of art and such.
I think the authors would do better to create their own society or order and relay greater details in a systematic approach. The tables they use seem awkward at times and the data in the table cells is minimal.
**If you have a background in Magick and/or Eastern Mysticism it's no problem as you can fill in the gaps with experience. If you don't... well, you might feel lost I suppose. But this is targeting advanced users of magick and mysticism.**

Magnificent Volume Of Training And Tools For The Magus!

I have recently purchased “Ars Vercanus: Advanced Magickal Techniques” by Vasilios Wennergren. I am only a couple of chapters in, but I have found the book to be well written, intelligent and useful. I am a magician who started on my path via traditional witchcraft in 1983, and moved towards primarily magical practices over the years, much of it in the tradition of Franze Bardon mixed with some of the ideas from Max Freedom Long’s style of Huna.
In my opinion, Mr Wennergren’s book would be a welcome addition to the library of any magician, occultist or pagan who has learned some of the fundamentals of energy work and magic, and who has a certain level of discipline over their mind and emotions.
Buy the book – it is worth it!

Impressive material

Ars Vercanus covers magickal techniques from a wide spectrum of cultures and sources. The variety and depth of this work allows it to stand above and beyond 99% of its "competition". 400 pages of well constructed and beautifully designed content cements Vasilios Wennergren's place as a staple of modern magickal discovery (or re-discovery). Five stars for this brilliant work.
