Contiene anécdotas y datos históricos. Córdova fue general de los ejércitos de Colombia, Ecuador, Perú y Bolivia.
La biografía está basada en la novela, del mismo autor, "Córdova entre la bruja y la Muerte."
Contiene sus incomparables acciones de valor, en los llanos venezolanos, el cruce del páramo de Pisba, las batalla del Pantano de Vargas y Boyacá, con las cuales se diera independencia a Colombia; la campaña del bajo Magdalena y las batallas de Pichincha, Junín y Ayacucho. Sus frustrados amores con Fanny Henderson. Así como también su actitud de someterse voluntariamente a un juicio acomodaticio que se le seguía en Bogotá.
La parte final de la biografía relata los pormenores de su asesinato, perpetrado por el irlandés Ruperto Hand, en cumplimiento de órdenes del general inglés Daniel F. O'Leary.
Córdova es uno de los principales héroes de esta difícil etapa de la historia de las colonias de España.
El libro es de imprescindible lectura para quien desee saber cómo sucedieron las batallas de la Independencia, en una época cuando el caballo era el principal medio de transporte y valioso elemento en los combates.
Por méritos militares, principalmente en los campos de batalla, le valieron para ser ascendido a general, a la edad de 23 años.
Aún estaba cubierto el campo combate de Ayacucho con el humo victorioso de las armas patriotas, cuando Sucre le impuso los soles de general de división.
Córdova recorrió a caballo más de cinco mil kilómetros, desde Venezuela hasta Bolivia y cruzó los Andes cuatro veces, en cuatro países. Hazaña que hoy nos parece insuperable.
No obstante que siempre estuvo en la primera línea, únicamente fue herido en la última batalla.
Los principios que inspiraban su vida resisten el paso del tiempo: el amor a la patria, a la familia y a la libertad. Su lealtad a estos ideales va desde cuando iniciara su carrera militar como cadete en la academia de Rionegro hasta el último aliento de su corta existencia.
También era ejemplar el amor por su madre, a quien donaba los pocos sueldos que el gobierno a veces le pagaba, no obstante que esto le imponía vivir pobremente.

Espectacular y maravillosa, novela, agradable y rápida de leer, apasionante para los militares que nos gusta y debemos conocer la historia, porque quien no la conoce esta condenado a repetirla, y lo mas importante que nos muestra con una gran claridad la verdad del asesinato del Héroe de la Batalla de Ayacucho, JOSE MARIA CORDOVA, un héroe de todos los tiempos, y donde se rescatan las virtudes del valor, el arrojo y la lealtad. True to Ken Davis' usual, this book is a true gift. Not only because the humor brings anything from a smile to a belly laugh, but because the spiritual message zaps you. I recommend this to everyone....even those who lack a sense of humor. Maybe this book could fix that for you. By the way, I think it would make a excellent gift to someone you know.

What it was like to patrol a violent city in the 70's

I had the pleasure of being a police officer for the city of Compton and served Compton PD for nearly ten years. I subsequently made a lateral movement to a nearby police department, due to the fact that Compton PD was about to be patrolled by LASD. I finished with that department after an additional 21 years of service. The Ghetto Cops was written before I started with Compton PD, however I read the book when it was first written. I had the book for about five years. I let several of my friends read it. The pages turned yellow and pages fell out when I finally got the book back.
I subsequently discovered Ghetto Cops returned, via my Kindle and I quickly ordered it. I was delighted to read the book again. It has been somewhere over 30 years since I last read it. I remembered most of the officers in the book, having the pleasure to work alongside them. Most of the best officers that I met, or worked with, came from Compton PD ( I served 31 years in LE). I really enjoyed reading the book and it brought back many memories. I found that working in Compton was part of the "greatest show on earth." I recommend Ghetto Cops. I also would like to recommend "Vice," by John Rick Baker. "Vice" is also an excellent book about being a cop for Compton PD.

Forty years have passed, but still spellbinding

As one who worked in Compton as a young process server during the exact time this book was being researched, I can vouch for the accuracy of Mr. Henderson's observations. The book (or Kindle) is hard to put down, as there is one great chapter after another. My only criticisms are that Mr. Henderson made up some of the street names -- he indeed used some true street names, mostly major thoroughfares, but changed others by substituting non-existent street names/numbers -- and that he waited forty years to release this book!

Great Read

If the dates were removed from the book you would have no idea it portrays the seventies . Ghetto Cops could easily be the story of any urban enclave in America today . You really get a feeling for what it's like to live and work in a very dicey environment. Very few people have experienced a world in which an off duty cop has to wear a gun while cutting his lawn because he fears attacks from gang members . Great read.

This book was worth $.99; however, the advice here is very general and common-sense. There is no advice on brainstorming topics, details, etc. The author spends more time discussing her credentials and highlighting client testimonials than offering useful advice. It's a very short book. I read the whole thing in 15 minutes. The sample essays are helpful.

Having the opportunity to utilize her 15 years of experience, expansive knowledge made the difference in my successful graduate application experiences. I was looking for materials to use to write the essays for my law school application. Read the reviews from other people and decided that a 99 cent investment was well worth getting additional pointers to complement my application. This book provided me with additional details that I would have left off my application. There is no way you can go wrong in investing in this book. There are nuggets of information worth much more than you will spend on this book. It's easy to read and if you get just one point from the book, you have gotten your money's worth.

About the Author
Kenneth and Cindy Quigley are the co-owners of Super Mutts. Super Mutts is a canine retreat and rehabilitation center located in Apache Junction Arizona. Cindy Quigley has been an animal lover all of her life and from a young age she knew her life's work would be spent in the service of animals. She grew up with animals and trained her first dog at age 18. In 1984 she became a Veterinary Technician. In 1985 she became a professional pet stylist, apprenticing under a groomer of 20+ years. She groomed professionally for 8 years and in 1993 made a career change and became a Registered Nurse. During that time she continued building and training a pack of dogs at home and studying animal behavior. She has worked in grooming shops, boarding facilities and veterinary hospitals, all of which taught her how to read canine body language and understand dog handling. Throughout her 11 years of nursing, she felt something missing and decided to follow her heart. In 2003 along with her husband Kenneth they opened Super Mutts. Super Mutts is a Canine retreat that offers training, boarding, daycare and grooming. Kenneth Quigley has been an animal lover all of his life, caring for anything his parents would let him bring home. He has personally cared for and trained dogs since he was a teenager. Early in life he knew that animal care would play an important role in his life. He became a Systems Engineer in1996 and has spent years perfecting his trade, all the while building his pack of dogs at home. Through dog ownership and the challenges of living with a “pack” of dogs, he has studied dog behavior; finally landing him at Penn Foster College where he graduated as a Dog Obedience Instructor. Both Kenneth and Cindy have worked with special needs pets ranging from timid, fearful, deaf and hyper, to those exhibiting human and dog aggression. In training dogs with behavioral problems, Kenneth and Cindy quickly realized that many of these problems were caused by the owners unknowingly. They also recognized the mistakes that puppy owners were making when it came to raising their new puppy. That and the fact that after years of working with clients and answering questions ranging from puppy start up to temperament problems, Kenneth and Cindy developed the Puppy Montessori program and Super Mutts canine rehabilitation and training systems. Kenneth and Cindy Quigley continue to own and operate Super Mutts. They reside in Arizona with their dogs Rudy & Bentley

I'm now training my puppy the correct way and the results I'm getting is wonderful. thank you so much for doing this book. everyone should get and read and apply this to their training for their puppy or any size dog. Excellent program!

I really appreciate this book! Anyone who wants to raise a puppy needs to read Puppy Montessori first. It's an essential guide that even veteran trainers can appreciate. After 10 years of being surrounded by dog trainers at a local club I frequent (which, really, they're people trainers, teaching the dog is the easy part once you know the proper way) I can still learn new tricks. Puppy Montessori has really opened my eyes to a few things I've been doing wrong. I'm very happy and excited to bridge the gap of understanding how to communicate my needs to my newest companion. As a dog lover it really bothers me when I see so many owners unable to handle their dogs, and the dog suffers for it. If everyone first had the solid foundation this book imparts there wouldn't be an unhappy pup or owner alive.

The Singing Crane Garden in northwest Beijing has a history dense with classical artistic vision, educational experimentation, political struggle, and tragic suffering. In 1860, during the Anglo-French war in China, the garden was destroyed. One hundred years later, in the 1960s, the garden served as the "ox pens," where dissident university professors were imprisoned during the Cultural Revolution. Peaceful Western involvement began in 1986, when ground was broken for the Arthur Sackler Museum of Art and Archaeology. Completed in 1993, the museum and the Jillian Sackler Sculpture Garden stand on the same grounds today.

In Place and Memory in the Singing Crane Garden, Vera Schwarcz gives voice to this richly layered corner of China's cultural landscape. Excellent book, reaches into both heart and mind...

`Place and memory' came to me while conducting research on a related subject. Out of the pile of books about the history of late imperial China on my desk, it stands out as an unusually excellent read. Though under strict orders to `read just one chapter', I went on and am now deep into the whole book. I could not help myself, because it reads like a beautiful story, full of emotion. It is packed with knowledgeable insights, and right from the start appeals to the reader's heart and mind. Most importantly, the composition of this book transcends by far most standard research material about memory and place in China. Usually, this sort of material is interesting and full of facts, but going beyond dry facts is difficult. Piecing together a history of places in China is not trivial; I find that many times I give up on asking questions like `so, what was this before the road was built'? or `why is the neighborhood called `thousand lotus pagoda hill', because it is very plausible that there is no answer around.
This is why this book is so unique: the author, Prof. Vera Schwarcz, has avoided the fatigue and confusion of 'seeking truth from facts', and bravely delved into the clarity of history as the story of people. In this sense, the book is not only a great read and a very moving story about a garden long gone, but an inspiration not to give up on the search for the roots of change that surround us. I recommend it very warmly to anyone with an interest in memory and remembering in China and elsewhere.

A very disappointing book. It was obviously written by the late Brian Lenihan's friends and associates. I bought it in order to search for an in-depth analysis of the circumstances that got us into the current crisis but there was little explanation of that. The facts are that the Banks and the Bondholders went on a wild gambling spree. Had they been lucky, they would all have pocketed handsome profits but when they made a huge loss the ordinary citizen is expected to pick up the tab. No one, not the Regulator, the Dept. of Finance, the Government or our own Central Bank had the slightest notion about what was going on. When it all hit the fan, the ECB and other heavies from Europe bullied us into submission. Our average citizen is now paying the debts of the Banks and through them, the Bondholders, mostly from countries that have an horrendous record of colonial expansion and human exploitation. But we were never told who these people are and we will be paying them for generations. Almost a quarter of a million of our people have emigrated since that debacle and almost no one has been held accountable and no record has been published about the 'negotiations' surrounding the deal.

A most enjoyable thriller, hard to put down and too close for comfort. The plot is well developed and Mr. Manley understands the manipulation exercised by power hungry, unprincipled individuals who use brainwashing to control their preys. The Big Brother of the 1990s is alive and well in a computer near you today, and on the street corner, and in the bank, and in the store, and in.... And you know, of course, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you! Thank you, Mr. Manley, for this page turner.

Very plausable thriller

This story brings back fond memories of 1990 and the early years of computing compared to today. Well written (no sex and bad language) and fast paced always moving the story forward. I remember when Netscape was giving out free software (I think it was 1991) for the then new WWW Browser experience. I also used CompuServe for several years which is mentioned by name in this story. Well, if you want to read an excellent computer thriller set in 1990 do not pass this one up.

A gripping suspense, action, thriller! Technological details concerning computers and internet access and the related workings of the stock market, both political and industrial influences, make this a plausible and cautionary tale for all readers. The underlying romantic associations adds to the realism. This book was well written and enjoyable to read, assuming it is a work of fiction!
