Little Klaus sobbed as he lay inside the missile tube, the sea inches above his head. Even when he opened and closed his eyes, the darkness around him never changed. He stopped blinking. As he rolled from his back to his side, a nursery rhyme of his grandmother's came to him, and he sang it, "Bumpety bump, rider, if he falls, then he cries out, should he fall into the pond, no one will find him."
He slid his fingertips along the steel walls of his cage. Water dripped down his palm, continued past his wrist and dampened the arm of his wool underwear. He jerked his fingertips back and whimpered at the thought of the Southern Ocean pouring into the submarine. But after licking the moisture from his hand, he tasted no salt. His compartment was sound, just slick with "condensation"--a new word Father had taught him. To warm his fingers, Klaus tucked his fists under his armpits.
Footsteps echoed beneath his feet. After several clicks, the missile tube door opened. A flashlight beam danced inside the two-meter-long prison.
Klaus stammered between chattering teeth. "F...f...father?"
"Yes, Klaus."
"Please don't leave again."
"I'm sorry." Father reached into the tube and patted his foot. "The crew may have grown suspicious to see a child walking the corridors with a Pirelli dry suit on. Better you hide here, and I bring it to you. Come out." Already dressed in his own diving suit, Father knelt at the open door.
Klaus inched down the cylinder, which was tilted at a slight downward angle in line with the sub. As he exited the tube, Father's hands supported him. When Klaus stood on the deck, he swayed and fell against Father's shoulder. After Klaus caught his balance, Father held a pair of rubber trousers and vest and helped him slink into them. The vest and trousers overlapped at Klaus's tummy.
At the overlap, Father inserted a water-proof envelope beneath the rubber. Father tapped the envelope. "Wonderweapon."

About the Author
Tom Langlas blends true history, science fantasy, and speculative fiction in his writing. As a graduate student at Yale, he researched ancient myths in the restricted vaults of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. He also studied the private papers of Lovecraft and Poe at Miskatonic University in Arkam, Massachusetts. After graduation from Yale Law School, Tom traveled the world in search of adventure and knowledge, from the carnivals of Bahia to the catacombs of Praetextatus. More recently, he's prowled Mayan ruins of the Yucatan and the remote black bear and elk ranges of Michigan's Huron National Forest. Tom is the author of the Sentinel Files novels, a series of stand-alone thrillers that mix the action of James Rollins, the horror of Stephen King, and the military science of Brad Thor. When not writing, he practices law on behalf of a select group of clients.

Crisp read firing across the mind from the days of third reich to the future.

Having read numerous books and watched even more programming on the third reich, i thought going into this read i would readily understand any references to that doomed empire. I was wrong. The book explores parts of the regime like the occult and experimental weapons that are given short shrift by the mainstream. With that said you don't need to be a history buff to enjoy this novel. It's suspenseful, exciting, interesting, and modern--with parallels to the present day complexities of the global conflict presently unfolding. Read it and you will learn about many historical and presently evolving subjects that the author does a marvelous job of explaining, but you will also be enthralled and wanting more at the end.

A Strange tale of Spies, Nazis, the Occult and Patagonia

Warning. The book is reasonably self contained but ends as a cliff-hanger set-up for the next book in the series. That always bugs me. This book is not for science fiction fans, but more for Nazi history conspiracy aficionados who don't mind a dose of occult fantasy.
It begins as a traditional spy story with the fall of Hitler's Third Reich, super weapons, Nazis escaping in U-boats to South America etc. Magic summoning of the occult then makes it more fantasy than science fiction. Strange mix!
Led by annotations in Heinrich Himmler's Bible we find extracts from Revelations and the Book of Daniel describing monstrous visions which the author skillfully weaves into the story. Good job.
We get a short course in SS occult magic thinking, their symbols and rituals. To read more Google "Wewelsburg Castle," the black Camelot of the SS covered in occult symbols, and "Wenceslas Henge" (actually a misunderstood foundation for a cooling tower?). See also the book "The Hunt for Zero Point" for more conspiracy theories about anti-gravity research.
The attempts at romance and sex seem juvenile, detached and lacks passion. The author does not know how to write good sex and should maybe leave it out.
That aside, it was a good story that kept me going even if it never quite gripped me. Fantasy is not my strong side but may enthrall others.

I gave 4 stars. I enjoyed the book and it moved along at a pretty good pace. I find the occult, historical, and biblical references fascinating.
I would have given 5 stars, but I was hoping the characters would be fleshed out a little better. Mason was interesting, but I'd like to know more about him and his abilities. I did not care for the girl who goes into a trance and summons a guide to show her supernatural things. I understand it's part of what makes this an "occult thriller", but humans doing those kinds of things is not for me as a Christian.
I do enjoy the myth and legends of "The Bell" and find Nazi lore interesting. I'm not certain if the use of The Bell is really it's intended purpose as it's shown in the Book, but it's still a fun read.
