I was raised to honor ancient stories, so have always held a certain fascinating with the visit of the Magi in the Christmas Story. In 1996 I began investigating the story, compiling notes of criticism of the Magi story, before stumbling upon research of astronomical history that could fit the story. I began studying Parthian history and culture, and more importantly the far older and more lasting Chaldean culture that existed for centuries throughout the middle east. Notes became writings. Writings became, with the encouragement of Kendra Miller Editing, a book--Star Readers from Out of the East.

About the Author
In 1995 Dan Nygaard became fascinated by the ancient story of the Magi visit to Bethlehem. Researching that story led him into Parthian history and culture. Over time, what began as notes grew into a story that has now become his fi rst novel. Dan likes to claim he has the best job in the world--he leads Hope Community Fellowship, a missional church in Fort Collins, Colorado. Every Sunday his story-telling skills are refined by the challenge of maintaining his audience's attention. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Ridgeview Classical Schools, a public charter school; he is also the Chaplain of GRIT (grace, righteousness, intensity, toughness) Athletics. Dan and Belinda have enjoyed 38 years of marriage. He's a voracious reader and she's a voracious ballroom dancer. They're the proud parents of two adult sons, Dustin and Benjamin; and hosted two exchange students--Jan from Germany and Diana from South Korea. The Nygaard home has been a story-telling place for people from around the world; Russia, Mongolia, Vietnam, China, Puerto Rico, and Ukraine, as well as South Korea and Germany.

Read STAR READERS

You know that feeling of satisfaction that comes with being entertained AND educated by a book? Like, "Yes! This book sucked me in, piqued my imagination, and for the time spent reading, my knowledge of a different time and place has been truly expanded." STAR READERS is one of those books. The plot keeps moving, the characters are realistic (not glamorized), and the time/place/customs of ancient Parthia have been well-researched (I know because I did a few Google searches while reading). STAR READERS is an investment as much as a luxury.

Could this have happened?

This story had several of the elements that make a good book for me. It had mystery, history, the triumph of good over evil, and a great story of love that was patient and enduring. I particularly enjoyed learning some of the history of that region and the battles that ensued in that part of history. I found myself glued to the book until the end waiting to see the final outcome. As a person who reads 2-4 books a week, it is rare that I actually get one that give me a pause to really think through the implications and possible outcomes of the story. I highly recommend it.

What a wonderful conclusion to a meaningful and intriguing tale

I just finished this book. What a wonderful conclusion to a meaningful and intriguing tale! Star Readers captivates you from the outset and maintains your interest as it unveils the inner workings of an empire, a culture, long gone and then leads you to the discovery of the child that the Parthians had seen coming in the stars' alignment. However, this book is much more than a retelling of the story of the "wise men" from the east. It is an innovative telling of what might have been and at the same time giving us insight into a people about whom most know very little. Dan Nygaard's book has added to our body of knowledge regarding a critical time in history, and he has done it creatively and and in an engaging manner. I highly recommend it. My only suggestion is not to allow too much time to pass between picking up the novel as it is full of much new information in terns of characters and setting.
