One thing I really liked about this guide was the fact that it contained LOTS of pictures of the places it described. (some of the food looked SO appetizing.... I'm a little disappointed that I wasn't able to make a stop while I was in Milan!) Another great thing about this guide is its organization. It has a detailed table of contents, and everything is clearly labeled (for example, day, lunch, dinner, or night). This is a must have for anyone wanting to travel to Milan!

Definitely hit up all of the spots I was looking to go to. The Very Best of Milan, though, I'm not quite sure, but it helped out my group when we were traveling.

The next best thing would have been an Italian phrase book, simply so that I wasn't juggling two different books in my hand while trying to navigate around town. Besides that, couldn't have asked for too much more!

Everything you need for a great origami project!

I wanted to find a way to introduce origami to my kids, who are 8, 7, and 4. My oldest has some motor planning issues, and I thought this would be a nice way to help him work on those while doing something fun. This kit is perfect for younger or special needs origami enthusiasts. Each collage comes with a nice, large background and papers of various sizes to make the individual pieces. Each paper is premarked with numbers and dotted lines to help you know exactly where to fold. The collage style makes doing origami into more of a permanent project, for those of us who would prefer not to have coffee tables and desks cluttered with various origami animals. This is a great product, and if a "sequel" is made, I'll be first in line to buy it!

Note: Christmas scene included

I haven't open the product yet, so I don't have a true rating. But I wanted to comment on this as I was surprised when I received this product to find that one of the six scenes is a Christmas tree. There is no indication that there is anything religious in this kit on this page. We bought this for a birthday gift for someone who does not celebrate Christmas. I wish they made the religious theme clear on the landing page so people are not surprised upon receiving it.

I'll be honest here, I know the author/quilt designer. I've seen her work, and it's amazing. And although Amazon still hasn't fulfilled my order, I have seen and read the book. If you're a quilter, former military or not, you won't go wrong with this.

Honoring Those in Service

From Ensign's Bars to Colonel's Stars is the first in a series called Making Quilts to Honor Those Who Serve. The first volume presents original patterns commemorating commissioned officer ranks: Ensign's Bars (O-1); Lieutenant's Platoon (O-2); Captain's Company (O-3); Major's Gold (O-4); Commander's Flags (O-5); and Colonel's Stars (O-6). Quilt designer and retired service person Renelda Peldunas Harter comes from a family with multi-generational military service.

Strip piecing and easy piecing techniques are utilized. The majority of the quilts are geometric-- made up of squares, rectangles, and triangles. Several incorporate appliqué, and some inspiration gallery quilters used appliqué to personalize their quilt interpretation.

Each pattern is shown in several color ways; the author chose colors to represented different branches of the armed services (red, white, blue, khaki, gray, green, gold, brown), while other quilt makers interpreted the patterns in colors such as pinks, gray and black, brights, and green and aquas.

The military rank insignia which inspired the patterns are explained and their history given.

Clear and detailed instructions for cutting, preparing, squaring, and sewing is offered in a general section as well as for individual projects. The author emphasizes squaring as central to quilt making success. I appreciated her illustrated section on squaring.

I have not tried making a pattern. The instructions include lots of illustrations. The process is explained step-by-step.

Although created for honoring active service persons and veterans, the patterns can be adapted for many uses and the gallery of quilts included in each chapter provides inspiration for other applications, like baby or graduation quilts.
Colonel's Stars (below) is Renelda's Quilt Design Star™ 2012 Professional Category entry quilt.
The author served over 25 years in active duty and the reserve and she tells her story in each chapter's introduction.

Perhaps sadly, this is the last instalment in the 'Some Dogs Are Angels' trilogy, although it is by no means the end of our story. It picks up from the day after 'Tails and Tribulations' finished and covers the period of the next three years in the pack's (and our) life. 
It's taken me a long time to get around to writing the book. For nearly 4 years, 90 pages had sat around on the computer waiting for me to get on with it, but so much has happened and so many circumstances have intervened that I just didn't get around to it. You may be surprised to know that when I finally got going, it only took three weeks to write the final 300 pages.The result, at least from my perspective, is that 'A Piece of Heaven' is the best of the 3 books. It's rich with etheric input, and there are some staggering revelations. The narrative almost takes a back seat to the wisdom, but there's still plenty of story and many wonderful tales to relate. And of course, there are lots of dogs!I hope you enjoy it.Mark

I highly recommend this book to those who feel a deep connection ...

I just finished the book this morning. It continues where his last book,Tails and Tribulations, left off. The book tells of the difficulties they had finding a new home for their dogs and how eventually they were able to find an ideal location. By the end of the book the pack has increased to over 40 dogs and all are doing well.

The books spiritual side will make you look at and examine some of your own beliefs.

I highly recommend this book to those who feel a deep connection to the animals in their lives. However reading the first 2 books in the series is recommended as the information in those books will make reading this one more enjoyable.

I was so excited to hear the 3rd book in the "Some Dogs are Angels" series was ready, and it was definitely worth the wait! The story of this family and how everything happened is incredible! If you're someone who is searching for answers about the meaning and purpose of life, then i highly recommend reading these books. Ive read through each of them several times and learn something new each time. Buy them, you won't be disappointed!

I don't know how A'ndrea did it, but she sucked me in and forced me to keep stay up until 3 a.m., until I finished.
Excellent storyline. Somehow the predictable became unpredictable. I'm hooked on her writing style. Kudos

You gotta have F-A-I-T-H

Every time I pick up a book by Wilson I am hungry for the next one. Lucky me in my search after reading Couples 101 I found this series "Wife to Be"

In the world we live in there is alot of noise sometimes so much so we cannot hear the things we need to, only what we want to. Felicia learns this lesson while actually living it with her childhood friend Morris.

As children they made a pact and now its time to collect on it. Her romantic heart is with Corey, but the other half is somewhere else. As she gives attention to the pact made many years ago she is conflicted. The reader sympathizes with her' and Morris' dilemma, but our hearts are saying something different. You see we were taught to follow your heart, but sometimes we have another calling that is much higher.

I LOVED this book as I have with many of J Wilson titles. They are faith filled and refreshing, each time I read I'm reminded to stay focused in ALL my relationships.

When Dennis travelled to Iraq to cover the trials of Saddam Hussein, he already had considerable experience behind the camera with some of America's most infamous cases.

Since he began working with Court TV in1997, Dennis has been in the courtroom of nearly every high profile hearing or trial west of the Mississippi.  Including Jodi Arias, O.J. Simpson's Las Vegas trial, Dr. Conrad Murray, Scott Peterson, Robert Blake, Ted Binion, Phil Spector, Noura Jackson, James Ray/Sweat lodge, Brandon Wilson/Matthew Cecchi, David Westerfield/Danielle van Dam, Kobe Bryant, and Manson Family parole hearings.  When courtroom cameras weren't permitted, Dennis moved outside with the reporters for trials such as Warren Jeffs, Elizabeth Smart, O.J. Simpson civil trial, Matthew Shepard, and Michael Jackson's pedophile case. The trials have been carried live on Court TV, In Session, HLN, CNN, and featured numerous times as main stories on "Dateline," "48 Hours," and "20/20."
 
As a Director of Photography, Dennis has travelled extensively around the country filming documentaries, cable series, live events, and instructional programs for broadcast and corporate markets.
 
During his 38 years in film and television, Dennis and associated productions received numerous acknowledgements including the CINE Golden Eagle, Gold Cindy/IFPA, Angel and Halo, Film Advisory Board of Excellence, and Telly awards.
 
Dennis Lynch graduated from Chapman University with a double major in English and Communications.

Hussein hilarity at your fingertips

This is one funny book about the premier delusional D-bag of our time. Nobody does snark better than Dennis Lynch and he was there to see it all from the trial 'til the dropkick to hell of Saddam Hussein. Buy this book! If you watched the trial on TV, you don't know half the story--the FUNNY half.

An excellent read!

What a keen insight Lynch offers of the Iraqi court system, Saddam's personality, and how the history of the area guides the actions of the present. I appreciated his description of the set up for the broadcast of the trials, the challenges of getting there, and the routine of the job. I found the transition from a civilized, soft spoken Californian, to a frightened civilian in a war zone, to a callused front line veteran plugging holes in his trailer understandable and believable. The behind the scenes descriptions of the judges, the guards, and the soldiers presented a sharp contrast to the hyper self-importance of the defendants. And his historical overview of the Middle East, from the viewpoint of a regular blue collar American, gave me clearer understanding of what's going on, why it's going on, and why it's so hard to end it. Shooting Saddam is a thoroughly enjoyable read, which kept me up late at night, reading the next chapter.

Satirical genius

A great perspective on such a tragic event. I appreciate Lynch's satirical banter as he narrates the Saddam trials and his experience as a civilian in a war zone. This book is very well written and uses all forms of humor and imagery to tie the reader into his unusual experiences.

This book is made to speak to everyone. An historian would appreciate its quirky perspective... those connected to military would enjoy the comical imagery of the green zone.... anyone who followed the trial would benefit from the behind-the-scenes revelations.... For the average person, such as myself, this book speaks a universal language that connects the reader and helps them relate to a drastically different reality.

I give 5 stars because it is a book that deserves a second read through....

About the Author
Bridget M. Cook is a lacemaker and designer whose work is well known from exhibitions and demonstrations held throughout Britain. She has lectured and demonstrated around the world, and in 1983 was awarded a Churchill Trust Travelling Fellowship to undertake further research. Geraldine Stott has been involved in making and demonstrating bobbin lace for many years, and has collaborated with a fashion designer in producing haute couture lace garments and accessories. She has sold her work in Harrods and Liberty in London, and has demonstrated in the presence of HM the Queen.

An amazing book

This book is compenium of stitches used in bobbin lace. Beautifully photographed and diagramed, it is meant for the lace designer. There are no patterns. The only thing I would do to improve this book is to give some indication what style of lace the stitches shown would be used in. That aside, I love this book. Even if you never design a piece in your life, it is beautiful and informative to browse through.

A great reference that adds to your understanding of bobbin laces

This instructional book illustrates 262 different bobbin lace reseaus and stitches with photos of examples, drawings of the stitches, and instructions and prickings for each stitch. It is a wonderful resource for understanding what differentiates the various reseaus and fillings, as in photographs, they are often hard to distinguish. Great to be used in conjunction with Pat Earnshaw's *Identification of Lace* when analyzing a piece of lace.

Every combination of bobbin lace stitches are featured and explained in this book. I found it a wonderful reference for designing your own or to learn a new technique .
