Lovely exploration of the growth of a garden.

Ann Ballard lives in the midst of a spectacularly beautiful garden that thrives on her willingness to work. As she details some of that work, we realize we are being addressed by a gardener of uncommon wit whose unpretentious observations on life and the universe have a power to engage and amuse that goes remarkably well with gardening. I hope we hear more from her soon.

About the Author
When her hands are not busy at the keyboard creating a new novel, Saundra Staats McLemore is managing the performing arts' marketing and sales business she built in 1984. Saundra is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and the Ohio chapter of the ACFW. In her spare time, she loves to garden, and she can be seen throughout the summer working in her flower beds. So far, Saundra has written two novels in the Staats Family Chronicles Series: Abraham and Anna and its sequel: Joy out of Ashes. To date, there are four novels in the Christmas Hotel Series: Christmas Hotel, Christmas for Lucy, Christmas Redemption, and Christmas Pact.

Born and raised in the state of Ohio, Saundra is married to Robert, and Anthony is their only child. The other two members of the family are the cat Charley, and the Cocker Spaniel Daisy.

Saundra Statts McLemore fulfills the expectations books one and two lead us to believe book 3 would offer.. Again. she sets her story in Franklin, KY. where 3 pregnant young ladies find themselves spending Christmas at the

The RMS Lusitania passenger liner was torpedoed by a German U-boat and sank 11 miles off the coast of Ireland on May 7, 1915. 1,198 civilian lives were lost and 761 lived. Some survivors never told their stories but others in various ways spoke of their experiences.

Daniel Taylor Brown was one of those who survived and openly spoke out. He boldly chronicles his story and the accounts of some who also lived, but continues to tell of others who helplessly died during the attack and aftermath.

The reader cannot help but be transported to that time and place of great terror, loss and heroism. You will not only hear of a man s will to live and escape a rapidly sinking ship against extreme odds, but with many souls still on board he watched the doomed Lusitania sink. It goes on with the stabbing pain and helplessness of witnessing those in the water die. The overwhelming trauma continued for all in the life boats while they persevered defenselessly as a sea of death surrounded them. With passion Daniel Brown relates this shocking story to us.

In 1916 after his return to his residence at the National Soldiers Home in Southern California, Mr. Brown was invited to speak publically. His story is presented here with a style of writing that conveys not only his heart of grief for all who suffered and died, but of an accountability for those who were the perpetrators.

About the Author
Daniel Taylor Brown was born in 1872 in Blantyre, Scotland. He entered the United States in 1898 at the age of 26 and volunteered for the U. S. Army that same year. He served for 4 years and earned the rank of private 2nd class with tours of duty in the Philippine Islands and Cuba. During those years of military service he was wounded and permanently disabled. After recovering from his surgeries in London, Daniel Brown returned to Los Angeles in May of 1916. He resided at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, California. U. S. Naturalization records show he applied to become a citizen in 1917. His life was almost lost in military service in Cuba and the Philippines, in the sinking of the Lusitania and in the bombings of London. Against many threats he lived to the age of 64. He died on March 6, 1937 in Manhattan Beach, California and is buried at the Los Angeles National Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Why did it take almost 100 years to publish this manuscript? When Daniel Brown returned to southern California in 1916 he had a passion to tell the story of the sinking of the Lusitania. He was invited to speak to the Merchants Association of Santa Monica, the Red Cross and the Y. M. C. A. of Pasadena. An attendee of these addresses asked him if he would commit the address to paper to be published. Mr. Brown agreed and forwarded the handwritten manuscript to this man, Richard Allen. Intending to publish the manuscript, Mr. Allen stored it in a box with various photo albums and it was not discovered for over 90 years. In 2010 when Mr. Allen's descendants were going through the old box, they discovered Daniel Brown's manuscript and started the process of finally having it published.

On this, 100 years after the sinking of the Lusitania we have here a short, but important first hand account of this historical event and the remarkable survival of Mr. Daniel Browns. His vivid description of the sinking, tragic drownings and occasional life saving miracles makes this quick , compelling read. The tale does not end with the loss of the ship as Mr. Brown writes of recovery from surgery and survival in London during a Zeppelin bombing of London in World War I .

Historians and Lusitanian enthusiasts owe a note of gratitude to Robert & Kristine Allen for recovering this treasure and committing it to publication

Fascinating, Indeed! If you like cats, you'll enjoy learning more about the feline mystique, the history of cats, the science behind some of their quirks and habits, and many statistics collected over the years. What were the most popular cat names during certain periods? How loud can a cat purr? When are a cat's whiskers formed? What plants are poisonous to cats? Who, in history, owned cats. Author Emma Boyes even tell you the names of some of these privileged cats. A great reference for cat writers and a super gift for the cat person.

lots of great information

This was a fun book with lots of interesting information. I couldn't go back and count if there really were 1106 different facts about cats as it would take too much time, but, in reading, I noticed a lot of repetitions of facts--just worded differently. So, I really don't think there were 1106 DIFFERENT facts, but it's still a great, fun book for a cat-lover.

Excellent guide to Tromp

I have been playing Tromp for the last 6 years and played over 100 games with 2100+ rating performance (better than my current rating of 1985). Peter Wells is still the bible for this (hope he would come up with a 2nd edition). Pallisar gave a very good guidance on this opening. The statistics part was very useful and I was suprised to see Tromp scored very well in many lines - I think it deserves more popularity, especially if you compare it to "mainlines". Another great feature of this book is - it contains many recent games with top GMs - I didn't know it is played so often at that level. Any annotated game at 2700+ level is an excellent source to understand the opening. Pallisar has covered all the mainlines with good notes on the sidelines as well. Overall, anyone interested in tromp - This is a MUST buy.

Great Book

Deciding to take up the trompowsky was probably the best descion I ever made. At one stroke, you cut your study time down by massive amounts, as you avoide the kings indian nimzo, benoni's and all the other theoretical mountains. I've had outstanding results with it and owe much of my improvement to chess in general to this opening. The tromp. is employed at the highest levels of chess today and more and more people are starting to see the excellent practical value of this wonderful opening. Im about 1800 USCF and I can tell you this is the most up to date guide available on the market. There is also plent of fresh original anaylsis with excellent notes and tips. Palliser has also been a long time devotee to this opening as well. Whether you play the tromp. or just want to stop treading the theoretical oceans and actually steer opponents into your territory then this book is a must buy.

Clear and comprehensive

This is a fine book; it serves as a good practical guide to playing the Closed Sicilian because Palliser pays enough attention to the each of the various possible move-orders and flexible responses, but it also contains a fair bit of general theems (such as the sacrifice on f5), not only through example games but also by textual explanation. A minor point of criticism would be that no theoretical verdict is given on the main lines, but that's slightly too much to ask from a 'Starting Out' book.
