A must have!

I was attending grad school for the 2nd time and didn't realize I'd have to take the GRE again (6.5yrs since I First took it) because my old scores were purged from the system and I only had a copy of the score report but official (sent from the ETS site) were required. Anyways, I was advised by the admissions committee to retake it and I had just a month to do so. The book was a great guide and the tips provided helped me to really tackle the questions in a strategic manner, especially the math sections, which I was more worried about.
This book itself shouldn't be the only one you get, I got a kaplan GRE test prep to accompany this so that I can have practice questions. The book does give 2 math drills and 2 verbal drills, but you can use more practice, but all in all, a really great little concise book that puts in a nut shell, everything you need to know. I actually got the book from my local library as well, so maybe you can start there first!
P.s. I scored well on the quantitative and qualitative sections, just waiting for my analytical writing score now!

Busy and easily overwhelmed? This book is the ticket.

I took the GRE a few weeks ago and purchased this book to prepare.

I initially bought the full-length version but found myself too time-strapped and overwhelmed. I gave up. This crash course was just the ticket. I really relied on this alone. I'm a high school English teacher so the reading/writing was not a concern but I haven't taken a math course in over ten years. This book definitely helped me refresh my my math skills.

If you are someone who is overwhelmed by too much information or simply too busy to dedicate weeks of studying to an overly-priced required exam, then the Crash Course is for you.

I ended up with a 152 quant (I was very pleased) and a 157 verbal with a 4.5 writing.

a walk with Jesus

I loved this study. By God's grace through this study I was brought much closer to Jesus through the advent study. I've never experienced such closeness with our Lord as I did this season because of this study (really because of God, but, you know what I mean). It really felt like I was on a long walk/hike with Jesus, and I believe I was in a sense. I highly recommend it. It is very simple truths led through by the bible, with challenge and insight which are both necessary to walk with God. Thank you Lara Williams for heeding God's call to make this study. I have never been a "Christmas joy" person (I didn't even grow up with it, and started celebrating at 9 years old), but because of this study I've never felt so much joy during this season. Gifts can be empty idols, but this was a true relational walk with Jesus. Thank you.

Whilst possible, such a course of action requires money which is pretty, well where he begins; he has none. He leaves the poverty of his parents little home and heads for the capital Nairobi. Here he hopes to find the cheapest accommodation to live in for few months while he studies at a university for certification as a CPA. The college is well funded, run by the Catholic Church and it is an excellent entry on any young person’s resume. Everything looks to be fine and a happy ending is expected. Mwangi’s arrival in Kibera, the place where he is to find a room is a shock his system. The filth, the crime, the density of human misery and helplessness is staggering. His one room lodging, lack of any sanitation, the noise, lack of privacy and hunger puts a big strain on his natural optimism. Can he survive? The contrast between his humble rural home, poor as it was, and his home in one of Africa’s largest slums Kibera could not be more vividly told. I found this book to be totally compelling and I know that many will find it to be one of a kind, must read narratives. I put it down feeling truly inspired and encouraged by one young man’s story. I know there are many others who have lived through Mwangi’s experiences and worse and this book will surely give hope where one can hardly expect it. sample chapter The spectacle stretches for about three miles. It looks like a forest of brown trees or a brown lake. Almost like one continuous roof of brown corrugated iron sheeting. I clasp my green metal trunk as we rapidly approach the sprawling Kibera. My chaperon, if you can call him that, maintains his steady pace; to him this is just another day in familiar grounds. He is oblivious to my apprehension. I wish he would slow down, give me a moment to take it all in. He is in his early to mid sixties, heavy set but not fat, and stoic. His thick calloused fingers look like tree stumps, his thick-nosed face portrays a tough life. He dons a tattered blue jacket and I can smell his strong body odor. The only reason I am willingly following him is because I wouldn’t know where to go if I turned back. He stumbles on as my new life approaches faster than I bargained for. What have I gotten myself into? The brown is no longer even or uniform; as we get closer the structures begin to take shape. Rows, or rather clusters of mud-walled shanties greet us. The brown masses turn into corroded iron roofs on top of the mud structures, and are so close I can barely tell where one ends and another begins. My chaperon does not miss a step. He keeps on like he’s walking through the main street of a major city. He does not even look back to see if I am keeping up. I can feel my fingers dig into my palm as I tighten my grip on the metal trunk and I almost break into a run so I can be closer to the only familiar element around here. I have never seen or imagined anything like this in my wildest moments.

Brilliant, moving and unforgettable

I read the pre-published version, and fell in love with the story. The writing style is crisp and flows beautifully. The pace is perfect. And the story is engrossing. If you are interested in learning the inner heart of Nairobi (capital of Kenya), or enjoy tales of persevering against impossible odds, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.

Only memoir with cancer, divorce, and death that makes me laugh

I'm a guy. I make that point because it would be easy to assume that a memoir dealing with breast cancer, divorce, difficult childbirths, and a crazy mother = total chic-lit that guys won't like. In fact, besides being totally wrong, you'd do yourself a disservice by skipping this book.

Brandy's style is direct, honest, and incredibly funny - which is a weird thing to say about a book that has so many punch-in-the-gut moments. But it's true and its her style that makes it so readable and so relatable. She's hit that magic ratio of lucid writing to jokes and f-bombs that makes her story universally engaging.

As an Asian-American, her description of her mother is both touching and hysterical - the transcription of her mother's thick Vietnamese accent instantly came to life in my mind. I want my wife to read this book so she'll appreciate how easy she has it with my Mom (just as much praying but less calling people "whore"). And, in general, the jumble and juxtaposition of East-Asian and American cultures throughout her book were presented simply as what they were - no annoying asides explaining Asian culture, no pontificating, nor understatement.

I was also impressed by the description of her relationship with her ex-husband. The guy clearly lands in the douchebag category, but Brandy doesn't make him out to be a cartoon villain. He's made real and with enough depth that I found myself uncomfortably recalling times when this guy's douchebagedness seemed a little too familiar. And that's one of the hallmarks of a good memoir - inspiration is nice and all but introspection is often the source of more lasting change.

In summary: funny, relatable, gut-punching, memoir of a strong and smart woman. Kind of like Bossypants except with about 100-times the drama :) Highly recommended!

A very satisfying emotional roller coaster of a book

Wow! This was a great read, I couldn't put it down.
Made me laugh, made me cry, a very satisfying emotional roller coaster of a book.
Her writing style was so engaging, I had to read it straight through. It reads like an Oprah's Book Club novel, yet it's a TRUE story. This author is a strong woman to have lived through all this and come through with a great attitude and wicked sense of humor.
This is a book you will tell your friends about, and I'm hoping there will be more installments upcoming, I want to read more.

Amazingly frank and honest. I had to keep reminding myself that this was a true story from someones life experience, not just something someone made up to entertain me. I literally laughed out loud at times and my heart broke at others. A great read that I finished in numerous little sittings in a day, because I just couldn't walk away from it.

An outstanding mystery, set in the country of Mexico. You can't find a better mystery or mystery writer! Brian Porter's books leave the reader to look for more mystery's written by this talented United Kingdom author. Many of the books by Author Brian Porter, have been picked up by Thunderball Films for future release.

Transports you into the chilling and deeply disturbing world of ritualistic killings and human sacrifice

I had been eagerly anticipating the release of 'Avenue of the Dead' since reading the short story 'The Devil You Know' which appeared in the 'After Armageddon' collection, and which first introduced the character of Detective Juan Morales. (For anyone who missed reading this prequel to 'Avenue of the Dead', the writer has included 'The Devil You Know' at the beginning of this book). As has become his trademark, the writer immediately transports you into another world; this time into the chilling and deeply disturbing world of ritualistic killings and human sacrifice, against the backdrop of the beautiful and vivid ruined city of Teotihuacan in Mexico. Whilst on vacation, the character of Juan Morales is drawn into a police investigation, as a brutal and barbaric killer is on the rampage in Mexico City.
The richly woven tapestry of this vibrant novel takes you into the heart of ancient Mexican cultures and civilisations; where religious ceremonies and worshipping of ancient Gods, is to have a devastating impact on the present day inhabitants of Mexico City, as the heritage of a sadistic killer is re-enacted. As the reader, you find that with every page you turn, the more desperate you become to discover the identity of this diabolical monster, before it is too late....
As with all the other books that I have read by this exciting writer, the shocking finale to this pulsating story does not disappoint. The writer even leaves you with an extract from his next Juan Morales book 'Under Mexican Skies' to wet your appetite. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Avenue of the Dead' it is an intoxicating and thrilling read!!

Good quality thriller

Interesting, believable characters and a fascinating look into history and ancient culture. This intriguing thriller pulls you in and builds steadily. It’s the kind of story that gets you thinking – calls on your intellect while stringing you along. The climax is hard hitting, the resolution warm and satisfying. As with all detective stories, you need a strong, likable lead character. Juan Morales works!

While studying prophecy over the past years, I have often felt that some of the traditional interpretations of Gog and Magog were lacking in historical evidence and accurate commentary. Craig C. White brings a scholarly and fresh look at how prophecy concerning end time events may be shaping up. His writings may be the very link you need to try and make sense of what is happening in the Middle East today. Another aspect of his work is; that you will not be left wondering if their is hope for the future. Very Explanatory And Dare I say, Accurate?

Great resources for new and older Christians for refreshing, updating and more explanatory/comprehendible is simpler than I've ever read. Craig C. White really has a knack for listing answers to all of our questions regarding scripture references and meanings, and listing them in order of his presentations. it's almost like an alphabetical order from a-to-z relating to the title, subject and cases in point. Must-read all his books. I've read many of his summaries on his website and finally getting to complete books only after a month of knowing about his works.

A Primer on Common Grace

I had heard of common grace, but did not have a good understanding of it until reading this primer on the topic. It was a much-needed reminder for me that we are all sinful creatures. If we don't accept this truth, if we only see the good in people, how will we be compelled to share the gospel with them? And how will people who live good, moral lives or have an abundance of blessings see their need for a savior? These question deserve much thought, and The Problem of Good explores them carefully and answers them wisely.

Great book on the doctrine of common grace. Highly recommended!

Grace is topic that’s often talked about, especially in the reformed circles. But how much does an average christian know about common grace? Surprisingly, I doubt one will have much to talk about it.

The problem of evil is not a strange question for christians. But what about the problem of good? What do you do with non-christians who live morally good and proper lives, who’s happily living without God? Common grace is the answer!

Marion Clark starts by giving a good introduction to common grace and also a grand overview about what the book will cover. The first two chapters then explores and explains what the doctrine of common grace is, the first from the negative aspect, in the way God restraints evil in the world. And the second from the positive aspect, in the way God blesses all men.

After that comes the applications of the doctrine in various areas of life. I found the second part especially helpful as they are practical and discusses about topics that relevant for all christians. They cover from topics like how common grace should shape our worship, how it will affect the way we evangelise and love our neighbours, how christians can and should learn from what non-christians have discovered, and how to enjoy the pleasures that God gives to all men.

As someone who’s not well versed with common grace. I found the book especially enlightening. Furthermore, sometimes in a book that has multiple authors, the quality of the chapters sometimes can vary quite a bit. However, I have to say that I found these chapters to be consistently well-written, each and every one of them.

If you are a christian, or even a pastor who wants to learn about common grace, there is no better introduction that this book. Pastors may have to supplement their reading from other sources that is referred to within the book, but this book does already have a substantial amount of good teaching in itself already. Highly recommended.

The year of the Wood Sheep brings a very different and unique year ahead. Donna Stellhorn's Chinese Astrology 2015 is a must read to understand and make the most of the opportunities and challenges in the year ahead. She includes predictions for health, real estate, love and money, just to mention a few of her topics. Then, she proceeds to introduce each Chinese zodiac animal, with positive information and suggestions for each sign. Every animal includes cures to counteract challenges as they occur.There are over 300 pages of explanations, cures and astrological information for the year to come.
My immediate family gathers to learn what their animal sign has in store in 2015. We all take notes and discuss the cures suggested and make a list of things to celebrate 2015 all year together. It's informative, it's fun and Ms. Stellhorn is right on target with her suggestions.
You will enjoy reading and learning about feng shui, astrology and the year of the wood sheep. You're year will be more enjoyable and productive with this delightful book to guide you.

Money and Love, but also addresses global issues of Health

Donna Shellhorn’s “Year of the Wood Sheep” covers not only the usual aspects of Feng Shui such as, Money and Love, but also addresses global issues of Health, Social relations and Global predictions.

This book goes beyond the usual Feng Shui practice to cover “human luck” and “earth luck”. Written from a “practical and applicable” view, you will learn compatibility with other signs and use of crystals to enhance favorable energy.

I can personally agree with Donna’s suggestion to “change something” or “move something” to shift the energy in our lives. In 2014, this was particularly evident as I created tremendous energy coming into my courtyard entrance.

The 323 pages will keep you reading – even beyond your own sign.
